LACMA permanent exhibit. I’ve never had the privilege of walking into one of Richard Serra’s installations before. At a distance, I admired the sheer gravitas needed to pull sculptures of this size together, but doubted their ability to carry the same weight experientially. I was wrong. Meandering into both permanent works on display in the lower level of the LACMA, I was immediately transported somewhere else. My eyes followed the impossibly smooth lines up, down, around, back. Within minutes I was disoriented in a wonderful way as the light reflected off of these hulking steel forms making them seem massive and weightless all at once.
